The RSM SMG (Student Members Group) prides itself on providing the opportunity for enthusiastic medical, dental and veterinary students from across the country to meet and share experiences, opinions, activities and opportunities to learn and develop their future careers.
Academic Meetings
The RSM organises over 400 educational meetings and conferences every year. Students are eligible to attend most of these, often free, at reduced rates or on bursaries. Furthermore there are over 20 awards and prizes aimed at students.
The SMG also arranges a number of its own meetings, looking at current academic medicine and research, arts, ethics and clinical medicine. This includes a speciality revision series, practical OSCE training days and OSCE revision days.

Career focussed
Every year we hold a Student Research Presentation Prize evening and a Specialty Careers Fair, all of which are very well attended and members find themselves coming back year after year. The Careers Fair has over 35 stands representing the different specialities, giving you the opportunity to speak to specialist doctors.
The Committee
Representatives from each medical, dental and veterinary school in the country are invited to sit on the SMG committee. This enables us to get feedback on the services we run for students, and also to help us find out what the students at each university need. We plan and organise new events academic, social and sporting events that we hold not only at our base in London, but increasingly nationwide.

Regional Groups
As the SMG goes from strength to strength, and with membership numbers from out of London steadily rising, we are now setting up regional groups who meet and organise their own local meetings with the support of the RSM. We now visit many freshers' fairs, have meetings using video-conferencing and a number of 'out-of-house' meetings.
Networking
The SMG have their own discussion forum, where they interact with other medical students. Why not also join our Facebook group, RSM SMG (you will need to log in to fully access it). This is the perfect opportunity to network with fellow medical students.
Social interaction across schools has always been important to the SMG – building networks between schools and friendships between members. We have annual sports and social events including chocolate tasting evenings and we hope to begin regional social events and dinners.
Beyond the SMG
Newly qualified doctors can join the RSM Trainees, which offers educational and social meetings for Junior Doctors. The SMG runs many meetings in conjunction with the Trainees' Committee for example the 'Becoming an F1 doctor day'.
