Lord Darzi, Minister of State for Health addressed over 400 Fellows and guests on Monday 12 November 2007. His lecture was entitled 'Innovations in Surgery' and also covered aspects of the NHS Review. Baroness Finlay, President of the RSM hosted the event, Sir Barry Jackson, a Past President of the RSM introduced Lord Darzi, Mr Andrew McIrvine, President of the Section of Surgery, gave the Vote of Thanks and Miss Maureen July, a patient of Lord Darzi, gave an additional vote of thanks. The event was organised by the RSM's Development Office which is responsible for the Society's philanthropic activities.

Ceremony of Remembrance 2008

On November 20 2008, The Royal Society of Medicine hosted its Inaugural Remembrance Ceremony, honouring the sacrifice made by doctors, medical personnel and others.
300 guests witnessed the Unveiling of a Remembrance Plaque, heard an Address by the Archbishop of York (pictured) and a special poem read by the Poet Laureate. Other readings were made by representatives of the RAF and Navy. A wreath was laid by the Surgeon General for the Defence Medical Services.
