Ouch that hurts: Acute pain in children

This meeting aims to review up to date methods in acute pain management of children, to identify and reduce risks in pain management and to consider the evidence for noxious events in childhood having effects later in life.

Key advances in research and treatment of brain tumours

11 November 2009
The programme attempts to provide a comprehensive update on the key advances in a variety of areas of research, both basic and clinical, which underpin developments in approaches to management. By the conclusion of the symposium, delegates will have gained a rounded, interdisciplinary view of the underlying neurobiology, and current approaches to the optimal clinical investigation and treatment of cerebral tumours.

The Care Quality Commission, voluntary schemes and the new regulatory landscape

The programme will explore the changing face of regulation across health and social care, the development of new national quality standards by NICE and the role of voluntary quality improvement schemes, using accreditation and peer review methodology. UKAF will put the case for CQC endorsement and recognition of accreditation awards. This seminar is a 'must attend' event for all those tasked with ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and those working to improve quality of services in health and social care.

TeleMed 09: It's all about the patient - The role of eHealth

23 - 24 November 2009
Telemed 09 aims to put the patient at the centre of the delivery of medical treatment in a series of academic and clinical presentations. Key issues for the conference will include the state of the evidence base on the potential effectiveness of these technologies, their ease of use, how they can be integrated into mainstream care services and the financial implications of their adoption.

Recent advances for retired doctors

This meeting is designed as a refresher for retired doctors but will also be suitable for doctors who have been temporarily out of medical practice. Guest speakers include Mr David Gatland, Prof Edzard Ernst, Dr David Jayne, Prof Nigel Lightfoot, Prof Malcolm Law, Dr David Misselbrook and Dr John Shneerson.
